The Columbian had an article about a nonprofit building low-income senior housing in Felida with access to transit (“Low-income senior apartments with all-inclusive care planned in Felida,” The Columbian, July 2). The Felida area hasn’t had weekend bus service in years. C-Tran’s Current doesn’t cover the Felida area.
If a senior wants to go shopping at the Highway 99 Fred Meyer, they have to go during the week and to the Salmon Creek center to catch the Highway 99 Vine. C-Tran isn’t taking the Vine to the 99th Street Center because it will add “too much” time on the route. Instead, they are taking the long bus up to WSU Vancouver, which is a waste of time and resources. C-Tran reasons that the passengers can either wait for another bus to take them to the 99th Street Center or they can walk from Highway 99 to the transit center. No telling how far we will have to walk to get to a different bus.
C-Tran and others that don’t ride the bus are living in a fantasy world. Just because there’s a bus stop sign, doesn’t mean there will be a bus stopping. C-Tran is out of step with their passengers’ needs.
