Confluence recently announced a new permanent executive director. Leah Altman will take the lead roll with the nonprofit group Sept. 9.

Altman has more than 12 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, designing and implementing donor engagement programs, and managing complex government grants and private donors. Altman was most recently the philanthropy director at the Intertribal Agriculture Council based in Billings, Mont.

Altman has worked for local nonprofit organizations as well, including the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation, the Native American Youth and Family Center, Ecotrust and Friends of the Children.

She has written for local and national publications, including Underscore, Portland Monthly, Oregon Humanities, Parents.com and Indian Country Today.

Altman lives in Vancouver and is a graduate of the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, N.M.

Her first book, “Cekpa: A Memoir,” publishes in November 2025.

Confluence is a collaboration of Pacific Northwest tribes, artists, civic groups from Washington and Oregon architects and landscape designers.
