A Camas man on motorcycle was killed when he tried to pass other vehicles on state Highway 500 near Grove Field and struck a car, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Jacob A. Cooper, 31, died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.

According to a crash memo, Cooper was westbound on the highway north of Camas. Ursula M. Richards, 89, also of Camas, was turning from eastbound Highway 500 onto Northeast Ninth Street.

Cooper, who the State Patrol said was speeding on a 2024 Yamaha, went into the eastbound lanes to pass other vehicles and hit Richards’ 2010 Buick LaCrosse.

Richards was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

According to the crash memo, drugs and alcohol were not involved but speed and unsafe passing caused the crash.
