WOODLAND — All lanes across the northbound and southbound bridges along Interstate 5 will reopen Sunday, marking the completion of the North Fork Lewis River Bridge deck repair and overlay project.

Washington State Department of Transportation contractor M.J. Hughes Construction will finish critical deck and structural repairs on the I-5 North Fork Lewis River Bridge ahead of schedule, according to the department. All three southbound lanes of travel will reopen.

In a news release, WSDOT said the repairs will provide a smoother ride, increase the durability of the bridge deck and extend the life of the bridge.

The roadwork that started in July has created headaches for commuters and pushed highway traffic onto city streets and rural road not equipped to handle the heavy traffic and larger vehicles.
