Letter: Israeli outrage misplaced

I’m sorry if I sound harsh, but according to Wikipedia, “As of 30 August 2024, over 42,000 people (40,602 Palestinian and 1,478 Israeli) have been reported as killed in the Israel-Hamas war.” I’ve got to say that for the Israelis to be so upset/enraged and engaged in mass protests over six dead hostages this week is just plain callous. Where have they been while so many Palestinian lives have been lost? Protesting or settling on Palestinian land? Treating Palestinians as equal human beings or as second-class citizens?

Like most tribalistic thinkers, they don’t give a damn about “others” lives or think of them as being as important as their own. Yes, Hamas leadership has been atrocious, but the Israel response (e.g. bombing refugee camps, destroying whole cities, hospitals, etc.) has been downright barbaric.
