Letter: Perez shows support for veterans

In a recent letter, Eleanor Lynch wrote that Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez doesn’t support veterans because of a vote against VA funding in 2023 (“Perez doesn’t support veterans,” Our Readers’ Views, Aug. 3). I suggest more research into why Perez voted as she did (because of amendments that Republicans tied to the bill).

This year, Perez voted for VA Funding in spite of some bad “culture war” amendments by the Republicans because the funding was so important. “This bill has a significantly better level of funding for veterans than enacted in FY24,” she said. “The legislation also included two of my amendments to address failures for veterans in Lewis County … and for veterans in Skamania County.” )

Perez actually voted against her party on the bill because she felt the funding was so important.

I applaud Ms. Lynch’s desire to learn more about the candidates; I just think she should do a bit more research.
