Letter: Perez doesn’t support veterans

As a woman in my 20s, I felt confident voting and that I was making a difference walking into the polling booth at the local school. Now, I realize that most of my friends and I were uninformed on many of the issues. We didn’t do much candidate vetting past reading the Voters’ Pamphlet. I now understand that millions of dollars are spent against candidates on propaganda.

One of the many lies fed to Washingtonians is that Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez cares about veterans. Perez voted against funding the VA in 2023, yet she and the media still portray her as a congresswoman who will work for the betterment of veterans’ resources. Her voting record tells a different story.

Without meeting candidates in person, asking questions and doing research, it is easy to fall under the propaganda spell. There are many issues at stake in this November election. As the daughter of a veteran, the niece of a Purple Heart recipient killed in action and with multiple family members who have served this country, I want my vote to go for someone who truly cares about this country and its veterans. That is not Marie Perez.
