Letter: Keep Washington beautiful

By Eva Larman, VANCOUVER

Washington state has made progress in its efforts to protect its natural beauty, but ongoing environmental issues persist. As reported in recent articles, our state faces serious threats from climate change and pollution . Temperatures have warmed by 2 degrees since 1900, and extreme events like droughts, floods, wildfires, and heat waves are occurring more often (Washington State Climate Summary 2022.)

Despite local and national efforts, our state’s renewable energy goals and environmental regulations still need more public support to make a difference.

With Washington’s population continuing to grow, the demand for energy and resources continues to rise, putting even more strain on already-stressed ecosystems. Many of us care, but we need to step up as a community. Support for sustainable choices, such as public transportation and community recycling, has to become the norm.

Please join me in advocating for stronger environmental protections to protect everyone and keep Washington beautiful.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
