The weekend brought some much needed rainfall around the region with Vancouver receiving one inch of rain over the weekend. Saturday had 0.58 of an inch, the heaviest one day total since June 2, and Sunday totaled 0.42 of an inch. The heavy rain helped, but as of early afternoon on Monday, Vancouver’s total of 2.14 inches is still far below the monthly average of 3.41 inches.
We get a brief break today in the steady rain before another batch of moderate to heavy rain falls Wednesday and Thursday. Sorry, Halloween looks wet and breezy at this point. Of course, there is always a chance of a quiet period in the early evening hours but around here we always have a plan B for possible rain. At least we still have daylight saving time stretching the daylight a wee bit for the start of trick-or-treating.
Snow fell in the higher Cascades and more snow is expected the remainder of the week. You’ll notice our high temperatures, Wednesday through Friday is forecast to be below average in the low 50s. Some readers notified me they were thankful for the cooler weather which has kept away the stink bugs and boxelders that have plagued some residents this fall. I haven’t even seen my friendly happy-go-lucky grasshopper that has enjoyed my patio this month.
I had several emails from readers saying that they received buckets of rain while the official reporting station in Vancouver received much less over the weekend. But that is how it is with showers, hit and miss. Plus with incoming storms rainfall is orographic in nature. As onshore winds reach our foothills, the air rises and cools and precipitation increases. We have various rainfall patterns here in Clark County. You know if you live in a wet location or not. Cougar had over four inches of rain this weekend and many of our Clark County foothill locations received two or three inches of rain.
