Special youth hunt put on by the Washington Waterfowl Association and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

RIDGEFIELD — In the half-light of dawn three mallards came swinging in over the decoys.

They were hot and moving fast, but 14-year-old Noble Ketola was fast, too, and one of the birds crumpled on his second shot.

He and his dog Ruby splashed into the marshy pocket to make the retrieve, and he soon came back carrying a fine mallard drake.
