In Our View: Ready to vote? A recap of our recommendations

Election Day is Nov. 5, when American voters will choose a new president along with elected representatives for state and local offices.

Ballots have been mailed to registered voters in Clark County. They must be postmarked by Nov. 5 or placed in an official ballot drop box by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

The Columbian’s Editorial Board has provided recommendations for various races and issues on the ballot. Here is a recap of those recommendations:

  • U.S. Senator: Maria Cantwell.
  • 3rd District Congressional Representative: Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is a clear choice.
  • Governor: Bob Ferguson is a clear choice.
  • Lieutenant Governor: Denny Heck.
  • Secretary of State: Steve Hobbs.
  • State Treasurer: Mike Pellicciotti is a clear choice.
  • State Auditor: Pat (Patrice) McCarthy is a clear choice.
  • Attorney General: Nick Brown.
  • Commissioner of Public Lands: Jaime Herrera Beutler.
  • Superintendent of Public Instruction: Chris Reykdal.
  • Insurance Commissioner: Patty Kuderer.
  • 17th Legislative District senator: Paul Harris. Marla Keethler also is an outstanding candidate.
  • 17th Legislative District representative, Pos. 1: Kevin Waters is running unopposed.
  • 17th Legislative District representative, Pos. 2: Terri Niles.
  • 18th Legislative District senator: Adrian Cortes is a clear choice.
  • 18th Legislative District representative, Pos. 1: Stephanie McClintock. Deken Letinich also is a strong candidate.
  • 18th Legislative District representative, Pos. 2: John Zingale is a clear choice.
  • 20th Legislative District senator: John Braun is running unopposed.
  • 20th Legislative District representative, Pos. 1: Peter Abbarno is a clear choice.
  • 20th Legislative District representative, Pos. 2: Ed Orcutt is running unopposed.
  • 49th Legislative District senator: Annette Cleveland is a clear choice.
  • 49th Legislative District representative, Pos. 1: Sharon Wylie is a clear choice.
  • 49th Legislative District representative, Pos. 2: Monica Stonier is a clear choice.
  • State Supreme Court, Pos. 2: Dave Larson. Sal Mungia also is a strong candidate.
  • Clark County Councilor, Pos. 3: Wil Fuentes.
  • Clark County Councilor, Pos. 4: Matt Little.
  • Public Utility Commissioner, District 1: Sherry Erickson. James Oneil also is a strong candidate.
  • Initiative Measure No. 2066: No, the measure should not be enacted into law.
  • Initiative Measure No. 2109: No, the measure should not be enacted into law.
  • Initiative Measure No. 2117: No, the measure should not be enacted into law.
  • Initiative Measure No. 2124: Yes, the measure should be enacted into law.
  • Clark County Charter Amendment Nos. 16-18: Each of these amendments should be approved.
  • City of Vancouver Charter Amendment Nos. 8-12: Each of these amendments should be approved.
  • City of Vancouver Proposition 4: Yes, the proposition should be approved.
