Ridgefield’s Danica Allen and Columbia River’s Jacob McManus both won by substantial margins at the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League cross country championships Friday at Lewisville Park.

Allen covered 5,000 meters in 18 minutes, 29 seconds. It was the senior’s second-fastest time of the season and 1:14 faster than second place Lyla Taylor of Hockinson.

Hockinson, however, had three runners in the top six and won the team championship with 46 points. Scarlett Sanders finished third, Graysen Aldridge was sixth, Claire Tapio finished 13th and Kaydie Boettcher rounded out the Hawks scorers in 22nd.

McManus, a senior who was the runner up at last year’s Class 2A state meet, won in 15:45. That was 54 seconds faster than second place Andrew Orozco Stansbery of R.A. Long.

Ridgefield won the boys team title with 41 points ahead of Columbia River (55) and Mark Morris (68).

All five Spudders scoring runners finished in the top 13 — Jack Radosevich (3rd), Evan Hollis (6th), Cooper Dollens (8th), Aiden Raymond (11th) and Dominic Turner (13th).

Up next is the District 4 championships Oct. 31 at Lewis River Golf Course followed by the state meet Nov. 9 in Pasco.

Ridgefield gets PK win over Columbia River

Ridgefield’s Marlee Buffham scored two goals in regulation, Columbia River’s Remi Buckley matched and the two top teams in the 2A Greater St. Helens League eventually went to penalty kicks with Ridgefield prevailing 5-4.

It was the first loss for River (13-1, 10-0-0-1) this season, but the first-place Rapids get a point in the standings for the shootout loss and lead second-place Ridgefield (13-2-1, 9-1-1-0) by two points with three matches to play in the regular season.
