BELLINGHAM — Mabel, a cow that escaped and has been wandering Bellingham since Aug. 10, was rescued late Friday night, according to a Whatcom Humane Society social media post.
The message said the rescue was only possible because of a “village of people,” and more details will be released soon.
On the Tuesday before the rescue, Humane Society Director Laura Clark told The Bellingham Herald the organization was concerned about Mabel’s safety and the safety of the public, as there were multiple reports of her crossing busy roads.
On Saturday, Oct. 12, following consultation with experts, a secure enclosure was built around a feeding station attached to a trailer. It is unclear at this time if the feeding station contributed to Mabel’s rescue.
