Letter: Use organic pest control

By John Lippe, Vancouver
Published: October 18, 2024, 6:00am

In regards to Allen Wilson’s article (“Old-fashioned chemicals effective,” The Columbian, Oct. 12), I applaud his use of organic pest control and I’m disappointed in his recommendation of the use of “old-fashioned” chemicals — chemicals shown to cause cancer and destroy important pollinators and ground-dwelling insects.

His neighbors (like mine) may be attempting to create yards that are Certified Natural habitat and the use of those chemicals so close make that difficult to achieve. Gardeners use some of them on property lines as well.

It’s hard to control weeds, but digging them still works and provides much-needed exercise at the same time. Buy a good pad to save your knees and have at it.
