Letter: Street changes don’t make sense

By Melanie Kenoyer, VANCOUVER

I have been reading about complaints from Save Our Streets, a group that is opposed to the changes in Vancouver’s roads. I agree that changes being wrought upon our streets are causing many problems, not only on Southeast 34th Street, but all over the city.

For example, try driving down Fourth Plain between F Street and Andresen Road. Left-turn lanes have been removed, or a lane has been removed for a center lane, leaving only one lane to drive on because we now have “bus lanes” denying us the right to drive on the right.

Coming westbound, from Fort Vancouver Way, first there are two lanes, then one lane for a couple of blocks, then two lanes again. It is confusing and certainly does not protect the pedestrians I was told it was changed for. The best part is that all these lanes are just painted on the road and we are in the lane before we can read it. Not a good street plan.

Where in the world did the traffic engineers ever get these ideas?
