Letter: Children should be ‘born in love’

When one considers a pregnancy due to rape or incest, practically speaking, most people would believe that the termination of the pregnancy is the best solution. It is the most likely solution. So how can anyone believe that the woman should go forward and have the child?

Analyn Megison, a woman who was raped and the mother of a child conceived in rape, has stated that “my child is so much more than that and should never be defined by how she was conceived.” She further states that to use the phrase “born of rape” is a cruel way to twist and distort the essence of her child and her life.

Yes, rape is a severe, violent act and few can fully understand the damage done to the woman. But the abortion takes the life of an innocent, unborn child who should not be deprived of life due to the criminal act of the rapist.

Megison promotes another alternative, which is, the child conceived in rape should be “born in love.”
