Columbia River, Kelso punch tickets to 3A/2A state slowpitch tournament

Rapids to play Hilanders on Thursday for district title

The Columbia River and Kelso slowpitch softball teams took care of business with a pair of two-game sweeps Wednesday at Heritage High School to advance to the 3A/2A state tournament.

Columbia River eliminated Mark Morris by scores of 12-5 and 11-1.

Kelso ousted R.A. Long 18-12 and 19-9 with 30 hits in each game.

River’s Hailee Corona and Ruby Lew were each 3-for-4 with a home run and scored three times in the first game. Corona also had a double and three RBI, while Lew had two RBI.

Ella Easter and Haylee Delano each went 2 for 3 with three RBI for River in the Game 2 win.

Kelso’s Avery Mackin continued her hot hitting by going a combined 8 for 9 with two doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and six runs scored in the wins over R.A. Long.

Emma Osborn also went 8 for 9 with five RBI and she hit two home runs in the second game. Bregan Ruhland had two homers and four RBI in the second game

Columbia River (15-3) and Kelso (15-5) will face off at 6 p.m. Thursday at Heritage for the district title.

The state tournament is Oct. 25-26 at Yakima.
