Prep highlights: Skyview slowpitch tops Union in 4A district preview

Nivayah Henry and Malea Figueroa both homered in a seven-run eighth inning as Skyview slowpitch softball beat Union 12-7 Monday ahead of their clash for the district title.

Skyview (15-1) and Union (12-2) will face off again Wednesday in a best-of-three series for the district title. Game 1 starts at 3 p.m. at Evergreen High.

Henry went 3 for 4 with three RBI and also doubled. Madi Johnson also went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI.

After regulation ended 5-5, Skyview scored all seven runs in the eighth inning before recording an out.

Sophia Rickard, Bailey Gleich and Megan Barrie all had two hits for Union.

Stars of the day

  • Ruby Lew, Columbia River, went 4 for 5 with a double and five RBI as the Rapids clinched the top seed to this week’s 3A/2A district playoffs.
  • Peyton Champagne, Kelso slowpitch softball, went 3 for 4 with a home run, triple, three RBI and three runs scored in a 14-4 win over Camas.
  • Keira McGinley, Mark Morris slowpitch softball, went 2 for 3 with a three-run homer, a double and three RBI in a 14-2 win over Hudson’s Bay/Heritage.
  • Chloe Shove, Evergreen slowpitch softball, went 4 fot 5 with a home run, two doubles and four RBI in an 18-16 win over Fort Vancouver.
  • Violet Narvasa, Fort Vancouver slowpitch softball, went 4 for 4 with a triple, double and three RBI in an 18-16 loss to Evergreen.
  • Andres Orozco Stansbery, R.A. Long boys cross country, was the individual winner in a meet with Washougal and Hudson’s Bay, covering 5,000 meters at William Clark Park in 16 minutes, 35 seconds.
  • Elliana Higgins, R.A. Long girls cross country, led the Lumberjills to a team victory as the individual winner in a meet with Washougal and Hudson’s Bay. She covered 5,000 meters at William Clark Park in 21:35.
  • Bradley Harris, Union boys cross country, led the Titans to a team victory over Skyview as the individual winner. He covered 5,000 meters at Whipple Creek Park in 17:33 to win by 44 seconds.
  • Daphne Evenson, Skyview girls cross country, was the fastest runner by 1:13 in a dual meet against Union. She clocked 19:37 for 5,000 meters at Whipple Creek Park.
