Letter: Preserve Climate Commitment Act

By Jan Verrinder, VANCOUVER
Published: October 12, 2024, 6:00am

Let’s be clear: Vote “no” on I-2117. Join 500 groups statewide, including Vancouver City Council, to reject I-2117. It guts the state Climate Commitment Act that limits greenhouse gas emissions by major polluters who must now reduce emissions or pay (purchase allowances). In just one year, $2 billion was generated and used to fund projects for fish, wildfire protection, transportation, and clean air and water. Climate Commitment Act projects also create jobs, helping Washington move to a cleaner economy and environment (solar, wind, hydroelectric).

Invest in us. We all benefit if we vote “no” to reject I-2117 and keep the Climate Commitment Act.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
