Letter: Focus on local issues

By Braden Boardman, VANCOUVER

While certainly important on a national scale, readers concerned with our southern border in the upcoming election should remember that it lies more than 1,100 miles from Vancouver City Hall.

Personally, I’d like my House representative to focus on issues closer to home, such as bringing much-needed jobs and funding for social services to our district. We have a pressing need on our state’s southern border. One of our most trafficked bridges bringing people into Vancouver is almost 110 years old. It was built well before most of the country had access to electricity and desperately needs to be replaced.

There are so many issues we need to focus on before we put that much effort into the Mexican border.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
