The Skyview football team is mourning the death of one of its players.

Skyview head coach Steve Kizer confirmed Friday that William “Liam” Sloan died in his sleep.

The Skyview football team wrote on its Instagram account that the junior lineman died unexpectedly of natural causes.

“Liam was a model citizen, outstanding student, incredible son, loyal friend and phenomenal presence in our football program and school community,” the post read. “He truly stood for all the values we take pride in at Skyview High School. We can’t possibly put into words how much he meant to us or how much we will miss him.”

A vigil is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Skyview High School gymnasium. Battery-operated candles will be provided and attendees are encouraged to wear blue jerseys.

The vigil will be led by Skyview players along with speakers from New Heights Church.

Skyview’s next game is against Richland at 4 p.m. Saturday at Kiggins Bowl. Richland’s football team offered its condolences on Friday.

“We are extremely saddened to hear our brothers at Skyview lost one of their own yesterday,” Richland football said in a statement. “Saturday’s game will be played together in honor of William, his family and friends.”
