Letter: Do better than eyesore bridge

In reviewing the images supplied for the bridge options, I’m reminded of the infamous Embarcadero Freeway in San Francisco. It loomed ominously over the waterfront, cutting off the city from the water and Ferry Building … much like the old Alaskan Way Viaduct in Seattle.

I favored the tunnel option (common in Europe) for the new crossing yet, alas, it looks like Godzilla will win and dominate the landscape with a spaghetti bowl of on- and offramps, displaced residents and a 100-year eyesore. Can’t we do better than this as a major gateway to our beautiful state?
