The Julia Butler Hansen House, the oldest house in Cathlamet, will be joining the National Register of Historic Places.
The house is named for its most famous resident, Julia Butler Hansen. Hansen was a congresswoman who represented the 18th District in the state House of Representatives from 1939 to 1960, and then represented Washington’s 3rd District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1960 to 1974.
Built in 1867, the house has been in Hansen’s family since 1885, except for 13 years when it was owned by the Wahkiakum Community Foundation.
The National Register was established in 1966.
