Daphne Evenson of Skyview girls cross country is the The Columbian 2024 Week 3 high school athlete of the week sponsored by Killer Burger.
Evenson received 1,200 of 2,668 votes to win the honor. The senior was the top local finisher at Nike Portland XC, placing ninth in the Danner championship race in 18:03.
Nominees are selected by The Columbian staff after a review of the previous week’s results. Suggestions for nominees can by made by anyone, but must be received by 6 p.m. Monday for consideration.
Winners of the player-of-the-week may not be nominated again during the regular season, and no athlete may be nominated in consecutive weeks.
Nominees are posted and voting begins each Tuesday and runs through Thursday.
Here are what the other Week 3 nominees accomplished:
MASON ACKER, WASHOUGAL BOYS GOLF: The senior shot a 4-under-par 32 at Orchard Hills in a win over Ridgefield.
COHEN BUTLER, CAMAS BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: The junior placed third overall (15:23) in the gold division at the Fort Steilacoom Invitational.
SYDNEY DREVES, COLUMBIA RIVER VOLLEYBALL: The senior averaged 20 kills and 18 digs in wins over Ridgefield, Skyview and Woodland.
SOPHIA RICKARD, UNION SLOWPITCH SOFTBALL: Rickard went 5 for 7 with two doubles, three runs and four RBI in two wins for the Titans.
