Prep highlights: Prairie volleyball beats Kelso to open league play

Prairie volleyball opened Class 3A Greater St. Helens League play with a key road win over fellow league title contender Kelso on Tuesday.

The Falcons swept the Lassies in a clash of teams that have both been ranked in the Top 10 of the Washington State Volleyball Coaches Association poll this season.

Prairie (7-1, 1-0) won the first set 25-19, the second 25-23 and the third 25-20.

Sophomore Gracie Jacoby contributed in multiple ways with nine kills, 12 digs and 16 assists.

Claire Neuman had nine kills and 10 digs while Addie Cameron had a team-high 12 kills. Avery Eterno led the Falcons defensively with 22 digs.

Union golfers win 4A GSHL title

Mason Bluestein of Union shot an even-par 36 for medalist honors at Camas Meadows to help the Titans edge Camas 161-166 and claim the 4A Greater St. Helens League title.

It also ended a five-match win streak by Camas over Union. According to Union coach Gary Mills, the all-time series is now knotted at 9-9.

Andre Kosaki was the low golfer for Camas with a 37.

Union now looks to defend its district title Monday and Tuesday at Lewis River.

  • Grady Millar, Mountain View boys golf, shot a 4-under-par 68 over 18 holes at Three Rivers for medalist honors in the Thunder’s win over Kelso.
  • Owen Winn, Columbia River boys golf, took medalist honors with a 1-over-par 37 at Heron Lakes Greenback course in a team win over Mark Morris.
  • Mia Johnson, Prairie girls cross country, was the individual winner as the Falcons won a meet with Mountain View and Heritage at Lewisville Park. She covered 4,600 meters in 20 minutes, 38 seconds.
  • Dekota Houfek, Prairie boys cross country, was the fastest runner at a meet with Mountain View and Heritage as the Falcons took five of the top seven spots. He covered 4,600 meters in 16:12.
  • Ruby Lew, Columbia River slowpitch softball, went 3 for 3 with a home run and five RBI in a 15-0 win over Evergreen.
  • Neelie Robbins, Mark Morris slowpitch softball, went 3 for 3 with two doubles and five RBI in a 18-5 win over Hudson’s Bay/Heritage.
  • Victoria Ross, Union slowpitch softball, was one of three Titans to go 4 for 5 at the plate in a 22-1 win over Mountain View. Ross had two doubles, two RBI and scored four runs.
  • Jaslyn Ausmus, Skyview slowpitch softball, was 2 for 2 with three RBI as the Storm beat Prairie 10-1.
  • Lilee Sanders, Kelso slowpitch softball, went 3 for 3 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored in a 20-4 victory over Battle Ground/Washougal.
  • Kace Prindel, R.A. Long slowpitch softball, was 5 for 5 with three RBI and scored four runs in a 25-1 win over Fort Vancouver.
  • Sienna DiCristina, Kalama girls soccer, assisted on the Chinooks’ first goal, and then scored four of her own in an 8-0 Trico League win over Castle Rock.
  • Katie Perkins, Columbia River girls soccer, scored the opening goal as the 2A GSHL-leading Rapids beat third-place R.A. Long 2-0.
  • Whitney Martell, La Center volleyball, had six blocks and nine kills as the Wildcats swept King’s Way Christian to stay unbeated in Trico League play.
  • Booklyn Fobi, King’s Way Chrisian volleyball, had a team-high 16 kills in a three-set loss to La Center.
  • Jacob Parker, Seton Catholic boys golf, shot 1-over 38 at Tri-Mountain for the low round in a victory over King’s Way Christian.
  • CJ Moore, Seton Catholic girls soccer, had a goal and an assist as the Cougars beat Fort Vancouver 3-0 to stay perfect on the season.
  • Shaylie Haij, King’s Way Christian girls soccer, had two goals and an assist as the Knights overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to beat La Center 3-2.
  • Lainey Hayden, Woodland girls soccer, scored two goals in a 4-1 win over Washougal.
