RIDGEFIELD – Junior quarterback Landon DeBeaumont and junior wide receiver Wyatt Hemmelman combined for two touchdowns, and the Ridgefield defense shut out its opponents for the second straight week as the Spudders stayed undefeated with a 21-0 victory over the Washougal Panthers in 2A Greater St. Helens League play.
With the win, Ridgefield moved to 3-0 in league play and 5-0 overall, but it was a struggle for the Spudders. Ridgefield entered the game averaging over 35 points a game on the season, but didn’t get on the board until the second quarter and held a narrow 7-0 lead going into the fourth quarter.
On the second play of the final quarter, DeBeaumont found Hemmelman on a crossing route in the end zone to push the lead to 14-0, and Cly Stephens added a one-yard touchdown run later in the fourth to seal the victory.
Despite missing seniors Mercy Johnston and Harrison DeShazer, two key elements to the Washougal offense, the Panthers (2-3, 1-2) were able to move the ball early on, registering at least one first down on their first three possessions.
