I’m not against bicyclists or buses. I am against the removal of established traffic lanes, especially when the city of Vancouver population continues to grow. Proceeds from vehicle license plates and gas pay for road construction and maintenance. Buses and bicyclists don’t.
In the past year, the city has changed the striping at the intersection of Fourth Plain Boulevard and Fort Vancouver Way at least four times. The accidents caused by these irrational traffic patterns increases everybody’s insurance premiums.
The city has now reduced four lanes to two lanes along the Fourth Plain corridor west of Andresen to past St. Johns Road, making the right lanes for buses only. This has increased traffic congestion, confusion, and angry/frustrated drivers while navigating through this obstacle course.
The city is planning similar projects to reduce four lanes of travel to two lanes for McGillivray, Southeast 34th, Northeast112th Avenue, and Chkalov.
