Letter: Current choices are clear

I would like to remind David Mikeals (“Sensibility is at risk,” Our Readers’ Views, Sept. 26) that although it is always easy to blame previous generations (we, the older generation, did the same), as a 29-year-old, he has been of voting age for 11 years. So, does that make him responsible for this mess?

Voting matters. The current choices are clear. As a young man he might not care about women’s health issues, for example. But young men in my generation did, because they were often tasked with finding safe abortions for girlfriends and wives, when it was impossible to get a legal one. It was also expensive for them. Perhaps there are no women in David’s life now, but he might still feel some compassion for the suffering of others. If for no other reason, a vote for Kamala Harris to keep abortion safe and legal, at least in this state, is important.

Yes, my generation did not always come through, but many of us tried. Now it’s his generation’s turn. Don’t let the next generation down.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
