Letter: Divisions threaten nation

I have come to the conclusion, through various media that I consider trustworthy, that the United States no longer has a two-party political system. I find that our political face now encompasses three parties: Democrat, Republican, and MAGA.

The study of political history has taught me that there has always been discord and discontent in our two-party system. However, there has never been the contentious vitriol that we see today with the addition of this third party. The current environment encourages division that, in all my years as a voting member of our republic, has never brought to mind the possibility of division of our country. It has never led me to consider that there are people in our republic who entertain the idea of the U.S. being a entity unto itself on the world stage.

These ideas would make it impossible to maintain our strategic position on the world scene. If we continue down our current path, it may lead us toward becoming a second-world nation, indeed if not a third.

We have extremely serious issues to consider in our coming election. It behooves us to think very carefully about the decisions we make.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
