Letter: Reject Initiative 2117

By Amelia Clark, VANCOUVER
Published: October 3, 2024, 6:00am

Let’s Go Washington, funded by millionaire Brian Heywood, backs Initiative 2117 to overturn the Climate Commitment Act. LGW filed a complaint alleging that Washington state is trying, with $200 refunds already planned, to sway voters to vote “no” on 2117. This, again, is a stunt by millionaire Mr. Heywood to distract voters from the benefits of the CCA.

Initiative 2117 pushes to repeal the CCA benefits of $200 electric utility rebates to 750,000 low- and medium-income households. I received one myself and am grateful.

I-2117 will remove CCA funds for Clark County electric school buses to reduce child asthma caused by diesel exhaust; Clark County grants to increase energy efficiency in low-income housing; Clark County EV charging stations and more. I-2117 backers deceive the public about lower gas prices if I-2117 passes. Instead, Washington gas prices have already fallen 20 percent in the last year, while the CCA is still the law. Washington gas pricing is complex and independent of the CCA.

Do not believe the deceptive lies and stunts of Let’s Go Washington. Rather, vote “no” on 2117 and keep carbon taxes on polluters to benefit our state’s citizens.
