Prep highlights: Union boys edge Camas in fast cross country dual

Bradley Harris ran a 5,000 meter personal best of 15 minutes, 19 seconds as Union edged Camas in a dual meet between two of the area’s top boys cross country teams.

Harris, a senior, broke 16 minutes for the second time this season and beat his previous personal best by 17 seconds. That helped Union to a 25-30 win over Camas in the meet at Pacific Community Park.

Camas junior Cohen Butler finished second in 15:50. The reigning district champ was coming off a personal-best race of 15:08 to place 11th in the elite Danner Championships at Nike Portland XC on Saturday.

Union claimed four of the top six spots. Marco Solari finished fourth in 16:43, Sabin Kotsovos fifth in 16:50 and Enzo Solari sixth in 16:59. Jackson Fortin rounded out the Titans scorers in ninth place, running 17:18.

Andrew Helt of Camas finished third in 16:09. Payten Jones placed seventh, Keane Cooper eighth and Tanner Werry 10th.

Union’s Ella Koch won the girls race in a 18:12 as the Titans also earned a 25-30 win in that dual meet.

Eliisa Marshall of Camas was second in 18:19. Union’s Sara Thompson clocked 18:21 in a three-runner lead pack that finished more than 90 seconds ahead of anyone else.

Stars of the day

  • Lyla Taylor, Hockinson girls cross country, finished first to lead the Hawks to a win against Columbia River and R.A. Long. She covered 5,000 meters in 19:45 at Vancouver Lake Park.
  • Andres Arozco Stansbery, R.A. Long boys cross country, was the individual winner in a three-team meet at Vancouver Lake covering 5,000 meters in 16:58.
  • Lord King Nana-Badu-Weah, Battle Ground boys cross country, was the individual winner in 18:27 as the Tigers beat Skyview with a perfect 15 points at Whipple Creek Park.
  • Daphne Evenson, Skyview girls cross country, won by nearly one minute, clocking 19:36 for 5,000 meters in a dual meet with Battle Ground at Whipple Creek Park.
  • Sophia Rickard, Union slowpitch softball, hit for the cycle in a 17-1 win over Fort Vancouver. She hit a three-run homer in the first inning, an RBI triple in the second, a two-run double in the third, and led off the fourth with a single.
  • Lilly Roman-Myers, Prairie slowpitch softball, went 3 for 3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI in a 13-3 win over Mountain View.
  • Malia Byrnes, R.A. Long slowpitch softball, went 4 for 4 with four runs and three RBI in a 17-16 win over Mark Morris.
  • Marin Martin, Evergreen slowpitch softball, went 3 for 3 with three runs, an RBI and a double in a 21-7 win over Battle Ground/Washougal.
  • Taylor Lies, Skyview slowpitch softball, was 3 for 4 with two doubles, an RBI and scored three runs in a 14-4 win over Kelso.
  • Christian Harlow, King’s Way Christian boys golf, won medalist honors with a 1-under-par 35 at Club Green Meadows in a team victory over Kalama.
  • Meg Perkins, Columbia River girls soccer, scored two goals for the 2A GSHL-leading Rapids in a 5-1 win over Hockinson.
  • Bridgette Hollifield, Kalama girls soccer, scored two goals and assisted on one as the Chinooks beat Columbia of White Salmon 4-3.
  • Tori Lasch, Ridgefield girls soccer, scored all three goals in a 3-0 win over Woodland.
  • Sophia Gourley, Columbia River volleyball, had 10 kills, 12 digs and six service aces in the Rapids’ sweep of Washougal.
  • Ella Thompson, Camas volleyball, had 10 kills, nine digs and three aces as the No. 1 team in the Class 4A state rankings stayed undefeated.
  • Kaia Lauder, Seton Catholic girls soccer, had two goals and two assists in a 9-0 win over Castle Rock.
  • Lauren Adams, Mountain View girls soccer, had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over Evergreen as the Thunder improved to 3-0 in 3A GSHL play.
  • Shaylie Haij, King’s Way Christian girls soccer, had three goals and two assists in a 5-0 win over Stevenson.
  • Avery Hoskins, Prairie girls soccer, scored a hat trick in a 9-0 win over Heritage.
