SEATTLE — Starting Wednesday, travelers can fly nonstop from Seattle to Manila, Philippines, with the inaugural takeoff of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport’s latest international flight.
Philippine Airlines will offer the year-round Boeing 777 flights — both red-eyes — to and from Seattle and Manila’s Ninoy Aquina International Airport on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Travelers can connect from the island nation’s capital to cities like Bangkok, Singapore and Hong Kong.
The 14-hour flights from Seattle to Manila leave at 11:40 p.m., and the 11.5-hour return flights leave at 10:40 p.m. Manila time.
Manila is Sea-Tac’s latest international connection, joining cities like Toronto and Munich that the airport also added this year. Alaska Airlines will start offering flights from Seattle to Liberia and Costa Rica in December, marking a record eight new international routes this year, according to Port of Seattle spokesperson Perry Cooper.
Service to Washington state, which is home to the country’s fourth-largest Filipino population, has long been one of the Port of Seattle’s most requested flights, agency spokesperson Toshiko Hasegawa said in the release. The Port of Seattle operates Sea-Tac, which — including Manila — offers service to 34 international destinations on 28 different airlines, Cooper said.
“Philippine Airlines is happy to say, ‘Mabuhay, Seattle!’,” airline President Stanley K. Ng said in the release. “We also look forward to serving Filipinos who hope to reunite with family members or experience new travel adventures in the vibrant U.S. Pacific Northwest.”
Navigating travel out of Sea-Tac Airport
To stay up to date on flight delays and cancellations, visit portseattle.org/sea-tac/flight-status. Passengers can also check daily airport delays and cancellations on the tracking website FlightAware.
For the latest conditions and forecast at Sea-Tac, check the National Weather Service, which has a station at the airport.
Drivers should expect serious congestion during peak periods, the airport said. It encourages the use of public transportation, parking, taxis, app-based ride-hailing or shuttles.
If driving to the curb is the only option, consider downloading the Washington State Department of Transportation app. The app will show updates on traffic conditions on all Seattle- and Tacoma-area highways. It also provides ferry schedules and tolls, mountain pass information and construction updates.
At the airport, Sea-Tac recommends ignoring the departures and arrivals signs. Instead, use the fastest-moving lane and an escalator or elevator inside the airport to reach the right level.
Cameras on the airport’s website can show how busy Upper Departures Drive and Lower Arrivals Drive are as people plan their drop-off and pickup.
There’s an automated parking guidance system that will help find a spot with lighting that indicates available stalls. Reserved terminal parking is available on floor four of the parking garage.
The flySEA app allows passengers to check wait times at security checkpoints, search for places in the airport like airline clubs and restaurants, and find details on arriving and departing flights such as boarding gates and if flights are on time.
Passengers can text “YES1” to 27829 to receive regular updates and alerts on Sea-Tac operations and services. Passengers can also find updates on Sea-Tac’s Facebook page and the social media platform X.
