The Camas volleyball team wrapped up its season with a dramatic victory and a fifth-place trophy at the Class 4A state tournament on Saturday in Yakima.
The Papermakers (22-3) outlasted Puyallup in five sets. Behind 2-1, Camas won the fourth set 25-15 then edged the Vikings 18-16 in the fifth set.
Camas reached the fifth-place match by sweeping Davis in a loser-out match in Saturday morning. That clinched a trophy for the second consecutive year and for the fourth time in the past five state tournaments.
With captain Kendall Mairs as the lone senior, Camas is well-positioned to carry this season’s success forward. The Papermakers lost a tight quarterfinals match Friday to Lake Stevens, which pushed top seed Curtis to five sets in the 4A semifinals Saturday.
After falling in the 3A quarterfinals, Prairie saw its season end with a 3-0 loss to White River in a loser-out match Saturday.
