TACOMA — Less than 24 hours removed from its first loss of the season, the Seton Catholic girls soccer team ended the 2024 season on a high note at the state final four.

Hailey Herboth scored a first-half goal on an assist from Kaia Lauder, goalkeeper Hailey Hammerstrom made three saves and the No. 2 seed Cougars knocked off No. 4 Cashmere 1-0 in the Class 1A state third-place game Saturday at Mount Tahoma High School.

Seton Catholic (22-1) earned the program’s first state trophy to cap a banner season that also included an outright Trico League title and a District 4 championship.

In their first appearance at the state final four, the Cougars suffered their first and only loss, a 1-0 defeat to No. 3 Bellevue Christian in the state semifinals Friday. The 1-0 win over the Bulldogs on Saturday was their 15th shutout of the season.

Though Seton Catholic will graduate three seniors, Hammerstrom, Lauder and Jessica Barrett, the majority of the Cougars’ roster is set to return in 2025.
