Churches, nonprofit groups and other agencies in Clark County are providing free Thanksgiving meals to the community.

  • The nonprofit Dream for Life is preparing to give away 7,000 free meals for its annual Thanksgiving dinner. Food will be provided by Daddy D’s Southern Style Barbeque.

The free meals will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at two locations: Living Hope Church, 2711 N.E. Andresen Road, Vancouver, and Grace Community Church, 1311 Lewis River Road, Woodland.

  • Pasitos Gigantes, a Hispanic disability support group, will host a Soul Food Fiesta in partnership with NAACP Vancouver, Shifted Theory and others.

The Soul Food Fiesta is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Fourth Plain Community Commons, 3101 E. Fourth Plain Blvd., Suite 101, Vancouver. The event is free for the entire community and first come, first served. Pozole, rice, beans, pumpkin pie and more will be served.

  • River City Church will host a free tamale lunch to celebrate Thanksgiving and Día de Acción de Gracias.

The church will serve tamales, rice, beans, chips, salsa and pumpkin empanadas from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at 2400 E. Fourth Plain Blvd., Vancouver. Drive thru and delivery are available. Call 541-314-7767 for delivery.

  • Retired Judge Rich Melnick and Beaches restaurant owner Mark Matthias will provide free holiday dinners on both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Melnick, Matthias and other volunteers will serve food from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at FISH Westside Food Pantry, 906 Harney St., Vancouver. They will serve dinner at the same time and location on Christmas.

Families are welcome. Community members can choose to either pick up or eat at the location. Delivery is available for senior and veteran facilities, shelters and other locations with at least 20 occupants.

The event will serve turkey, ham stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables and more.

For more information, call 360-699-1592 or email Beaches at beaches1995@outlook.com.

“There’s just a lot of people who need help,” Melnick said. “Some people are alone, and they just want to be with other people. It’s nice to give back.”
