  • 100 years ago

On Nov. 22, 1924, the Clarke-Skamania High School League expelled Ridgefield for “unsportsmanlike conduct” in football games. The unanimous decision came after complaints from “almost every member of the league,” including “alleged unsportsmanlike attitude of school officials and the townspeople,” as well as “several fistic encounters” that took place at a Ridgefield-Battle Ground game.

  • 75 years ago

On Nov. 17, 1949, the local Jaycees announced the annual holiday lighting contest would start the first of December. The citywide competition had the theme “The Light That Will Not Fail,” and had three divisions: general artistic effect, originality and ingenuity.

  • 50 years ago

Clark County Fire District 6 took part in a practical first aid test on Nov. 18, 1974. The firefighters, who didn’t know the drills were planned, encountered wrecked cars, bicycle accidents, and various injuries and medical emergencies. The test looked so real, “some real-life spectators got pretty shook up.”

  • 25 years ago

Hudson’s Bay High School’s most successful football season in its history to date ended Nov. 19, 1999, when the Eagles lost 28-0 to the Lakes High School Lancers. The Eagles finished 10-2. Linebacker Caleb Bancroft said, “I’m proud of our team and what we accomplished this year.”
