The Vancouver Public Schools’ board decided earlier this month to put a six-year replacement levy for technology, safety and capital projects on the Feb. 11 special election ballot.

The levy requires a simple majority to pass. It would go into effect in January 2026 to replace the current technology capital levy, which expires Dec. 31, 2025, according to a statement from the district.

As a capital project fund levy, the fund can only be used for facilities, equipment and technology. It would pay for:

  • technology to replace and maintain digital tools and infrastructure that prepare students for modern learning and career opportunities;
  • updated safety systems, including ones to secure school entrances and;
  • building repairs, including replacement of roofs and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

The expected levy rates increase each year, except from 2028 to 2031, and range from 29 cents to 38 cents per $1,000 assessed property value during the six-year term. Property owners paid 28 cents per $1,000 this year for the existing technology levy and $3.36 overall for Vancouver schools.

The school district’s overall tax rates are expected to decrease after 2026, eventually dropping to a total of $3.26 per $1,000 in 2028.
