The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra goes “Back to the Movies” today with a 7 p.m. screening of the 1929 Alfred Hitchcock movie “Blackmail” with live accompaniment by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra chamber ensemble. The film, which became Europe’s first successful “talkie,” follows a young London woman who murders a man in self-defense. In the days that follow, she is subjected to blackmail by a bystander of the event. Admission is $25. Buy tickets at kigginstheatre.com. Student tickets are $10 at the door.
Jazzmatazz
The Clark College Jazz Bands present their fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Gaiser Student Center on Clark College’s main campus at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver. Admission is free but donations to the Clark College Music Department are welcome. Two jazz bands will present the music of Count Basie, Tom Kubis, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Gordon Goodwin and Mercer Ellington. “Love’s a Joke” is a stand-up comedy tour featuring comedy couples (married, dating and divorced) dishing on marriage, sex, divorce, parenthood, fighting and weddings. Married comics Vicky Kuperman and Alex Cohen, one of the couples on the tour, will perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St., Vancouver, with guest comics Bjorn RG and Ryan Heinrich. Columbia Springs is hosting Super Plants Nature Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 12208 S.E. Evergreen Highway, Vancouver. Attendees will enjoy a day of hands-on science and nature experiences exploring “super plants.” The event is designed for all ages. Admission is free. Drop-ins are welcome.
