Letter: Preserve local news

By Phyllis Waldron, Vancouver

I am so thankful that the decline of the local printed news was brought to our attention (“Local media’s decline factors into election,” In Our View, Nov. 15).

Here is a capsule of the progression of the decline of local news: Local news stations were purchased by conglomerates where newscasters read the information fed to them; no more investigations and reporting; local newspapers were bought up and promptly shut down; social media became the norm; each site had a decided bias. Finally, the big progression. Twitter was purchased by an individual with a specific bias and purpose. We lost the ability to hear more than one side of an issue or idea.

We cannot lose our great resource in Clark County.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
