LONGVIEW — The Kalama School District is among 60 nationwide selected to participate in a U.S. Department of Energy program promoting energy efficiency and sustainability, the district announced Tuesday.

The 2024-2025 Energy Champions Leading the Advancement of Sustainable Schools — Energy CLASS — program provides schools with information on enhancing energy efficiency, adopting renewable energy sources and saving money.

The district will receive training from the New Buildings Institute and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab on topics such as strategic energy management, project development and funding opportunities.

Program participants were selected based on applications that demonstrated a dedication to creating impactful energy plans and sustainability goals.

Kalama was the only Washington district selected for the program, which covers 31 states.
