Kalama Elementary School was placed in lock down Tuesday morning after the Kalama Police Department was informed that Vancouver resident experiencing a mental health crisis, who did not have custody, tried to pick up their children from the school.
The Vancouver resident’s identity was withheld to protect the children’s privacy.
No threats were made toward students, campuses or district, the police department said on Facebook.
The Secure Status was lifted by noon. Officers remained on campus throughout the day.
In Secure Status, all students are brought inside the school and the building perimeter is secured, but activities otherwise proceed as normal.
Parents and families were asked to refrain from coming to the school because extra visitors makes security more difficult, according to the Facebook post.
