The state Department of Transportation decided Monday to keep Highway 20 over the North Cascades closed until spring.
According to a new release, the decision was made because of adverse conditions, including 15 inches of new snow, and avalanche risk.
The highway is closed between Ross Dam Trailhead (milepost 134) on the west side and the Silver Star gate (milepost 171) on the east side.
The Department of Transportation had closed the highway at those two points at 5 p.m. Friday due to the forecast of significant weekend snow.
It said at the time it would evaluate whether to keep the highway closed until spring on Monday.
