Letter: Work now to ban fireworks

By Rebecca Knight, Ridgefield
Published: November 18, 2024, 6:00am

Thank you, Debbie S. Simonds, for taking the lead to get fireworks out of the hands of the many people who do not care if there are laws against all manner of unsafe fireworks all over Clark County (“Ban fireworks throughout county,” Our Readers’ Views, Nov. 12).

I moved into the Historical-Art District of Ridgefield in May and thought that with the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge so near, I would not be subject to all manner of mortar-style and tree-topping fireworks. Oh, how wrong I was.

Action to prevent this continued assault on the people, pets and protected wildlife is long overdue. Seven months gives me a good head start to try to make some noise to prevent a repeat of July 4, 2024. Guess I’d better get busy.
