WASHOUGAL – The Clark County Newcomers Quilting Group met at Just For Fun Quilting armed with lots of fleece, portable sewing machines and camaraderie for a special project.

The 14 women, all with lots of experience with sewing, dove in to make dog beds and blankets for West Columbia Gorge Humane Society.

The dog beds were made using fleece stuffed with fleece scraps; the blankets were for the cats. Dogs at the shelter sleep on the floor or on cots and the beds give them comfort while they are waiting for new homes.

The cats will enjoy the fleece blankets that they can curl up in.

Some blankets were donated to memory care shelters in the area.

The fleece and fleece scraps are provided by Project Linus, which donates handmade blankets to children younger than age 18 who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need. These leftovers are donated to various charities who will make good use of them. The Clark County Newcomers Club Quilting Group was established by Kitti McCarthy when she moved to Vancouver from Iowa and joined Clark County Newcomers Club in 2020.
