Defending state champion Rebecca Yamada of Ridgefield is the No. 2 seed heading into Saturday’s finals of the 100-yard breaststroke at the Class 2A state meet at the girls swimming state championships in Federal Way.

Yamada cut .05 second off her qualifying time to finish Friday’s preliminary heat in 1 minute, 10.05 seconds.

She is seeded second heading into Saturday’s final behind Gabbie Patti of Bremerton, who swam 1:08.82 on Friday. Yamada remains off her state winning time of 1:08.86 in last year’s meet.

Yamada, who placed fourth in the 200 individual medley at state last year, was disqualified from that event in Friday’s preliminaries. Paige Dangleis of Hockinson advanced as the No. 3 seed in 2:11.77 in the 200 IM.

Dangleis also qualified third in the 100 freestyle (54.38). Karlen Stuart of Woodland (7th, 57.10) and Ingrid Morrison Garcia of Columbia River (8th, 57.36) also advanced to the championship finals.

Ridgefield’s Medea Rusu qualified third (1:02.36) in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:04.61). Morrison Garcia (6th, 2:06.89) Jordan Zaemann of Seton Catholic (7th, 2:07.06) also advanced to the finals in the 200 free.

Stuart qualified fourth in the 50 freestyle (25.36) and Romero qualified sixth (25.54). Zaemann qualified fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:37.09).

Also advancing to the championship finals were the Hockinson 200 medley relay and Seton Catholic 200 free and 400 free relays.

In Friday’s 3A preliminaries, no local swimmers advanced to the championship finals.

In the 4A meet, Camas senior Lila McGeachy was the lone local swimmer to advance to Saturday’s championship finals.

McGeachy, who came in seeded No. 5 in the 500 freestyle, qualified third for the final, swimming in 5:11.79.

McGeachy also moved up in the 200 freestyle. She qualified ninth but advanced Friday fifth in a time of 1:56.70.
