Career and Technical Education expands in Southwest Washington’s rural high schools

More students at small high schools have access to classes that prepare them for in-demand jobs after high school

High school students in rural districts in Southwest Washington now have expanded opportunities to earn college credit to prepare them for education and in-demand jobs after high school.

“When we first looked into this problem a couple of years ago, we recognized that the majority of the school districts weren’t even able to offer a single (career and technical education) course,” said Vickei Hrdina, career and readiness director for Educational Service District 112, a regional agency that serves schools in Clark, Skamania, Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, Klickitat and Pacific counties.
