Letter: Trump’s America far from great

I think the headline for the editorial opinion (“All Americans want to make America great,” In Our View, Nov. 7) is incredibly misleading.

American voters have diametrically opposed views of what it means to be a great nation. For Trumpers, that is a world order that weakens the West and encourages autocrats, especially Putin. It is an anti-immigration effort that will hurt millions and deeply affect our economy. It is a view that purportedly respects people’s right to freedom, but in reality, means a government that cannot regulate bad business practices; rolls back environmental efforts; pushes fossil fuels; and most importantly a government in chaos as he attempts to populate the federal government with his minions.

It will mean a concerted effort to create a Christian nation, with more laws that govern women’s bodies. You have (in the editorial) correctly identified Trump’s many failings. Don’t forget to shine the light on his efforts after he takes office, to push his views of what makes America great and throws our nation under the bus. All so he can stay out of jail, make more money and tee it up to remain in power as long as possible. I’m not alone in thinking that view is not a great America.
