Letter: Ban fireworks throughout county

By Debbie S. Simonds, Vancouver

I was glad to read that Camas officials have officially banned mortar-style fireworks (“Camas City Council votes to ban mortar-style fireworks,” The Columbian, Sept. 7). Hopefully in 2026, the area where I live will be quieter around the Fourth of July. I live in the Vancouver city limits and all types of fireworks have been banned for years. The city does very little to enforce the law. I call every year to complain when they are being shot off for long periods of time, even into the wee hours of the morning.

Hopefully this year we might get some new city and county officials that will make fireworks illegal countywide. Then those organizations that say they need to sell the fireworks for fundraising can find a different way to make money without affecting veterans, people with health issues or pets.
