Letter: Israel makes problem worse

The government of Israel’s stated goal in Gaza is the elimination of the terrorist organization Hamas. This is a noble goal on its face. In an effort to reach this goal they are bombing and killing large numbers of Palestinian civilians (over 49,000 at last count) albeit in the hope of striking a lasting death-knell to Hamas.

But, I ask, what is going to be the actual effect? I submit that the result will be the creation of the next generation of Hamas fighters in greater numbers than ever before. Just consider how the surviving children whose parents and relatives were killed will react. Are they going to quietly submit to Israel’s wishes? Or are they going to grow up hating Israel for what they have done and vow revenge?

I think the answer is obvious. The government of Israel’s policy is guaranteeing generations of death and destructions for years to come.
