Amazon founder Jeff Bezos started a chorus of tech leaders congratulating Donald Trump on his reelection, wishing him “success in leading and uniting the America we all love,” in a social media post Wednesday.
“Big congratulations to our 45th and now 47th President on an extraordinary political comeback and decisive victory. No nation has bigger opportunities,” Bezos wrote on X.
It’s the second time Bezos has posted on X this year. The first time was after an assassination attempt on Trump in July. Bezos at the time said, “Our former President showed tremendous grace and courage under literal fire tonight. So thankful for his safety and so sad for the victims and their families.”
The post came a little more than a week after Bezos wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post, which he owns, explaining why the newspaper did not endorse a presidential candidate.
Bezos and Trump have been at odds before, especially during the first Trump administration. In 2019, when Bezos was still Amazon’s CEO, the company blamed Trump over a $10 billion contract Amazon lost from the Pentagon due to, Bezos argued, Trump’s bias against Amazon.
Trump also repeatedly referred to Bezos’ newspaper as The Amazon Washington Post after critical coverage of him.
Bezos is not a frequent poster on X aside from reposts of Amazon and Blue Origin content, two companies he founded. He didn’t congratulate President Joe Biden on his win in 2020 but did criticize the Biden administration in several posts in 2022 over its handling of inflation.
When Trump won in 2016, Bezos congratulated him in a post on what was then Twitter, saying “I for one give him my most open mind and wish him great success in his service to the country.”
Not long after Bezos’ post Wednesday morning, several tech CEOs threw out their own posts for Trump, including Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, Apple’s Tim Cook and Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg.
Zuckerberg wrote his on Threads, Meta’s competing platform to X.
